Unless you are someone who resides underneath a rock or you are the type to actively avoid pop culture in all of its forms, you have probably heard of Michael Jackson before. His hits are inescapable to this day and his music is as timeless as anyone’s. It is safe to say that we all consider him to be one of the few true icons that the music industry has ever produced.
The King of Pop is still discussed on a regular basis. Unfortunately, his name is usually associated with scandal. His strange behaviors drew a lot of unwanted attention. Everyone remembers where they were when the news came out that Michael had been seen dangling his own baby from a hotel balcony. These are the activities that served to fuel speculation.
All of the plastic surgery that he underwent caused people to wonder about the reclusive singer’s motivations for altering his entire appearance. He appeared to have whitened his skin and he received several nose jobs throughout the course of his life. Of all of his peculiar traits, the one that has attracted the most attention over the years is his love for children.
Neverland Ranch was designed to serve as an enormous playground. These are the types of decisions that fueled speculation about his true intentions. It was believed that he had ulterior motives for inviting children to the compound. His longtime friend Macaulay Culkin is now speaking out. He believes that Jackson’s love for children was a result of his upbringing. Michael simply never had a chance to be a kid himself.
Everyone knows the Jackson 5 origin story and the physical and emotional toll that Michael’s father put him through from a very young age.
Culkin went into further detail about his relationship with Jackson during a recent appearance on Marc Maron’s podcast. For his part, he claims that there was absolutely zero impropriety and that their friendship was completely platonic.
“I never felt uncomfortable, that was the way that he was, down to his bone marrow. It never felt weird. It was just the way that it was. I looked at him for who he was. At that point, I was pretty famous and I met plenty of famous people, his fame did not make a thing. I was not enamored by him.”
Then the interview took a turbulent turn when Culkin was questioned about his relationship with Jackon’s eldest child, Paris.
“I am close with Paris. I’m going to warn you now; I am very protective of her so just look out. I am a very open book when it comes to things but like with her, she is beloved by me. I’m just letting you know if we want to start going down that road it’s going to be a dead-end, you know, but I mean that in the fact that I love her so much. She’s tall, and beautiful and smart. It’s great.”
There are those who will argue that Culkin’s experiences do not represent the experiences of every child who came into contact with Michael. While this is certainly understandable, those who wish to hear more about Culkin’s experiences with the Jackson family are definitely going to want to check out this very interesting podcast episode. It is safe to say that this is going to be a topic of speculation for years and years to come.
